Our Mission

Help Our Preservation Effort is dedicated to the preservation of the historic architecture and heritage of the Village of Hope and the enhancement of the community in general.

After the historic Moravian Village of Hope was named to the state and national Registers of Historic Places in 1973, residents thought a local historic ordinance and Historic District Commission would best protect the village’s oldest structures. An inventory of Hope’s historic district found several deteriorating structures, which inspired members of the Historical Society to form Help Our Preservation Effort (H.O.P.E.). Formally adopted in 1982, the organization first developed an archive and documented each historic structure within the district to establish a comprehensive inventory.

H.O.P.E. became a U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1984 and has since accomplished and supported various initiatives to heighten awareness of Hope’s history and reinforce its legacy. This includes aiding local efforts to preserve and relocate the Bottomly House within the village’s bounds, fully restoring The Long House on Walnut Street, and developing Hope’s Walking Tour Brochure.

It is with great esteem and appreciation that we thank the founders and original volunteer members of H.O.P.E. Their collective service to our community has left a lasting mark on the Village of Hope as they inspire our organization to this day.
